CGI Federal Secures Atlassian Suite Through the miniOrange 2FA Addon
CGI Federal, a wholly-owned US-based subsidiary of CGI Inc., stands as one of the world's largest firms specializing in IT and business consulting services. Their commitment lies in collaborating with federal agencies to deliver solutions tailored for defense, civilian, healthcare, and intelligence missions.
The Requirements:
CGI Federal sought to improve security for their Atlassian Suite while preserving their existing system setups. Their objective was to fortify user identities by implementing an extra layer of authentication across multiple applications, including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
Our Solution:
Users accessing CGI Federal's Atlassian applications such as Jira and Confluence were authenticated via Crowd using the Native Crowd SSO. We integrated the miniOrange 2FA addon with their connected Atlassian applications to provide an additional layer of security without disrupting the foundational system setup.
While integrating the 2FA addon with Jira, Bamboo, and Crowd presented no significant challenges, specific hurdles emerged during integration with Bitbucket and Confluence.
For Bitbucket, they had specific system settings that required careful handling during the implementation of 2FA. We offered tailored customization to accommodate their environment-specific configurations, improving both security and preserving existing system settings.
For Confluence, users were encountering incorrect redirects when accessing Confluence KB articles via the Jira Service Desk portal after logging in and validating with simple 2FA. This issue was stemming from the existing intricacies in their setup. We addressed this challenge by developing a customized Confluence 2FA addon, ensuring seamless access without the need for modifications to the existing infrastructure.
Benefits for CGI Federal:
- Enhanced Security: The integration of a second authentication layer significantly bolstered the security of CGI Federal’s Atlassian Suite.
- System Integrity:By introducing this layer, we ensured that the existing system configurations remained unchanged, preserving the operational environment.
- Seamless User Experience: Our solutions not only enhanced security but also maintained a convenient and uninterrupted user experience across all Atlassian applications.
Conclusion:
Thanks to miniOrange, CGI Federal now operates within a more secure Atlassian environment, achieving their goal of enhancing user identity protection without compromising their operational setups.
