Cloud SSO (Single Sign-On)

What is Cloud SSO?

Cloud Single Sign-On (SSO) simplifies authentication by allowing users to access multiple cloud applications with one set of login credentials. With miniOrange Cloud SSO, users—including employees and customers—save time and effort by signing in once to access web, on-premises, and cloud apps without repeated logins.
The solution consolidates login screens into one, providing seamless access to applications like CRM, HR, customer support, and communication tools. Cloud SSO, whether for Employee SSO, Web SSO, or Customer SSO, is a key component of Identity and Access Management (IAM), improving password management, boosting productivity, enhancing security, and reducing the risks of weak or forgotten passwords.

How does Cloud Single Sign On (SSO) work?

1. User Initiation

A user attempts to access a cloud application by entering their login credentials

2. Login Request Examination

miniOrange analyzes the login request. This involves checking:

  • Previous authentications in the same SSO session.
  • Policy requirements related to the user’s role.
  • The sensitivity of the application being accessed.
  • Contextual information, such as the user's location, device, or time of access.

3. Assessment of Risk

Based on the analysis, it determines the risk associated with the login attempt. It considers factors like:

  • Whether the user is accessing a sensitive application.
  • If the access attempt comes from a new or unrecognized device or location.

4. Authentication Decision

If the previous authentication is valid and aligns with policy requirements, the user may gain immediate access to all their cloud apps without needing to log in again.
If the system deems the request to be higher risk, the user may be prompted to undergo additional authentication steps (known as step-up authentication).

5. Access Granted or Denied

If the user successfully authenticates (either through the initial login or additional steps), they gain access to the requested cloud application and potentially all linked applications within the SSO session.
If the authentication fails, access to the application is denied, and the user may be required to retry or contact support.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Cloud & On-premise Single Sign-On (SSO) work?

Firstly the user tries to get access to their desired application/website. These apps/websites are from the Service Provider.
1. The application/website (Service Provider) redirects the SSO request to Identity Provider for authentication.
2. The user tries to sign in with his Identity Provider credentials.
3. Once IDP authentication gets successful, Identity Provider (IDP) sends back the Single Sign-On response to the Service Provider.
4. Getting On the SSO Response, the user is granted access to log in and access the resource or application.
5. Here the user can access all the other apps/websites from the Service Provider which are pre-configured for SSO (Single Sign-On).

What is IDP initiated and SP Initiated SSO?

SP-initiated Single Sign-On: This is when the user starts to sign in from your application (SP) and is sent to their Identity Provider (IdP) to log in and then redirected back to your application.
IDP-initiated Single Sign-On: The user logins directly to the IdP instead of the applications login Page.

What is Cloud MFA?

Cloud Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a strong security method. To access a cloud application or data, users need to provide at least two different types of verification. This usually involves something the user knows (like a passcode), something the user has (such as a notification on their phone), and something unique about the user (like their fingerprint).
